Your Social Life at Portsmouth Language College

Download our Social Programme Tmetable

At our College, we believe that successful language learning is helped by regular socialising with your fellow students.  We run a consistently enjoyable and varied social programme throughout the year.  We have an average of one event per week with more in the Summer.  Check out our LATEST NEWS or our FACEBOOK page to see details of future events and photos of past ones!

Portsmouth, Southsea and the local region is a great place to spend your free time and the College social programme includes the following events:

Attractions in Portsmouth and the local area

The Spinnaker Tower & Gunwharf Quays
Portsmouth’s magnificent tower is perfect to view the whole of the South Hampshire area.  Standing at 170m tall, it is a distinctive landmark.  The tower is next to the quality shops and restaurants of Gunwharf Quays.

The Seafront and Beaches at Southsea
Only a few minutes from our Southsea language school is the marvellous seafront.  There is the South Parade Pier to go on and the large green space of Southsea Common, where many events are held.  The seafront at Southsea is a great place to relax (after a hard day’s studying!) with a walk on the seafront.

There is also Southsea castle, which was built by Henry VIII in the 16th century as well as the shops, bars and restaurants of Palmerston Road close by.  To the east of Portsmouth is the marina with a ferry service to Hayling Island.

Portsmouth’s Historic Naval dockyards
Portsmouth has been a major Royal Navy base for hundreds of years.  The naval dockyards are also a popular tourist attraction where you can see the 200-year old HMS Victory (which fought at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805) and the 500-year old Mary Rose (which Henry VIII watched sink from Southsea castle and was then raised hundreds of years later) as well as other fascinating things.

The Guildhall & Commercial Road
Right in the centre of Portsmouth is the impressive Guildhall, which is now used for events such as music concerts.  Commercial Road is the main shopping area of Portsmouth where you can find all the major British department stores such as Marks & Spencer and Debenhams.

The Isle of Wight
This beautiful island is only minutes away by hovercraft from Clarence Pier in Southsea or by ferry from Gunwharf Quays.  The Isle of Wight has many places of interest on it, including the holiday resorts of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor.  Definitely worth a few day trips!
